Being a salesman is not easy. That’s it. If you think you just have to get out there to approach anyone, Man I gotta prove you WRONG! Did you know that it takes ages to close one deal if you do not know how to do it right? What more when you have to beat a competitor that has won for the past 3 years consecutively. Now is it good to be an underdog??? Gotta think bout that…
Earlier today, some of us that were participating in YESCOM had to sell our air plants to people around Bugis Village. There were many areas we could go to like National Library, Bugis Village itself, Bugis MRT, and many others… However, it was very tough to even say about 2 sentences because we couldn’t really grab their attention with our current sentence of approach… As for me, it was my mistake to start with ” Hi sir, do you got any spare time? “… OMG… That sentence could mean a heck lot of meanings and only those that are straight would interprete it correctly… And yeah, guess what, obviously I did not make any sales just now…
Seriously, it was a darn good experience for that short period of time. I could not count how many rejections I got within half an hour… It was horrifying… Furthermore, I cannot imagine why most of us here in Singapore would not even bother to know more about the product… Most of them are either busy or busy… Nothing else… It was demoralizing at first, but come to think of it, GREAT people came more or less by this path… If you manage to endure and just ignore the pain, it will soon pay off without you even noticing…
We even banged into an uncle, who I regretted deeply approaching… When we asked him and told him about Mother’s Day and our gift, he told us he was unemployed and needed help as much as we do… By the way he walked before we approached him, we all knew he was sincere… Shows that it’s good to be young now, we should spend all of our time to the best that we can, and not:
1) complain over a good thing
2) procrastinate
3) push things to be done to people around us
Therefore, I can only leave a message to all of my group members in YESCOM, this is just a test that may not necessarily mean that it will be this way in the days to come… This is an opportunity to look at what things could be done better and we can certainly improve…
